Story #2378
It was just a normal Sunday morning on Sand Hill. We were eating chow when Pvt L got caught with syrup on his plate. Syrup was of course unauthorized for us privates. DS B simply asked Pvt L if he took the syrup. Unfortunately, Pvt L decided to lie about it, saying someone else put it on his tray. DS B could smell the bullshit, and asked if anyone put the syrup on the tray. No one said anything in that silent chow hall. Pvt L insisted he did not do it, but DS B did not believe him one bit. DS B calmly took the syrup and told us to finish eating and form up outside the chow hall. When we all formed up, DS B gave us a speech ill never forget.
“Privates, as you know, I have just been lied to by Pvt L. Now I know you all are thinking ‘Whats the big deal? It’s just some syrup Drill Sergeant’. And I get it, and I would not have cared that much if Pvt L just admitted to it. I would have just smoked him for a bit and carried on. But he lied to me. When I was in Afghanistan, one of my squad members told a lie that he thought was no big deal… That little lie ended up getting one of my battle buddies killed. So today Privates, when im fucking you up all fucking day and night, just remember, im doing this to save someones life down range. Front leaning rest position, MOVE!”
I’m not going to describe the smoking, because you hear about that shit all the time on this page. I just want to remind you all that Drill Sergeants were not just assholes for no reason (most of them anyway), they did what they did to hopefully save your life one day.
