Bravo company stole our company guidon one day and we stole it back, along with theirs. A few hours later, the cadre first sergeant comes to formation and tells everybody who was involved with stealing bravos guidon to meet him inside. He comes in and says “I don’t know what y’all believe, but you better start praying to higher for when I get back.”

About 10 minutes later he comes back with our two drill sergeants. 1SGT yells for a bit before he tells us to take him to the room where the guidon is.

So we go and the damn door is locked (the rooms sometimes lock on their own if they’re slammed hard enough). But the 1SGT doesn’t know this and is convinced we locked the door so we couldn’t give the guidon back. He spends about 15 minutes taking the door apart and kicking it open. We go in and get the guidon (which is stored in 3 parts in 3 different lockers, the flag deep in my rucksack, which pisses him off more). 1SGT yells for awhile before our DS tells us to go the “the room” where we make the walls sweat.

This DS is known by the entirety of Ft. Knox for giving the most and the worst smoke sessions, but also for being the most inspiring and motivating. DS closes the door and tells one of us to get a canteen full of water and dump a bit on all of our heads. He then says, “good fcking job. I’m so fcking proud of you all. As far as I’m concerned, bravo stole our guidon first and you did what you needed and stole theirs. We will stay in this room for 10 minutes and wipe some water on the walls. And when we leave, you will tell everybody, including the 1SGT that you got smoked.”

We all walked past the 1SGT on our way out looking sweaty and defeated, but we had a great story
