OSUT, 2001. I was one of those who heard the bugle call and enlisted to stack bodies for the 9/11 attacks.
Anyway, after 30th AG, I get assigned to my ITB unit and my Drill Sergeant. Let’s call him O. Day 0 and DS O tells us to tow the line in the barracks. DS O then recites what I now know is the NCO creed, and then begins to brief us on SOPs. “Privates” DS O says, “The Army has informed us of its new policy concerning using profanity or putting hands on. We cannot cuss at you or put our hands on you unless it is a safety issue”. He walks straight over to me and attempts to f*ck my soul via stare. “But guess what, private? “, he asked me. “I don’t know, Drill Sergeant”, I replied.
DS O grabbed me by the collar and threw me into the side of my wall locker. As I’m recovering I hear him scream “I don’t give a flying f*ck!”. As he walked away, I was convinced that this man was going to kill me before OSUT was over.
