Basic training, July-August 1987. Basic radio procedure class, late afternoon, wicked hot, under some blissfully shady trees. This trainee failed to exercise sound judgment and initiative to stand up during class and while lounged back against a tree, promptly dozed off… On the spot corrective action began with a swift kick followed by about a million pushups. Final corrective action was applied by being ordered to perch on a low branch in said tree and every 5 min. loudly announce “I’m a shit bird – sqwak”. This continued for the duration of the class until being ordered down and selected as first up for GO/NOGO evaluation. Proud to say I was a 1st time GO and was promptly rewarded with more pushups.
