Story #2224
19K OSUT 2001. (This story seems a little long winded, but its WORTH it, just bear with it until the end and you will be glad you did.) First week of Red Phase. As usual for many of us food was the only luxury one could immerse in just as long no fellow pvt’s at your table decided to ask for the salt or look like a target for the DS’s to eliminate with extreme prejudice taking you and everyone else at the table down with them. We had time to eat that morning. “Eat to your heart’s content privates!” Man was I in luck. I got moved to the front of the line cause DS E asked me what my 1st general order was. Ha! That’s an easy one. Others not so lucky cause for some got asked who their DS was and they got blasted to the rear and accosted for answering correctly. Eating a meal could be a confusing and stressful time for a future tanker. So being high speed that I was and also given the opportunity to be far in front of the last man I had time to make that second trip to the cereal bar, grab an extra side dish, get a second helping of fruit. I was taking that DS up on his offer! I ate my fill then proceeded to dump tray and form up outside the DFAC by plt’s as was directed by my superiors. I was elated about the successful answer to DS E’s question and my reward there after no matter how small it might have seemed. But there was one issue with my over consumption of morning chow and I was yet to learn what it was. I waited patiently for the rest of the company to form up. A couple of DS’s were outside with us to help remind us of how chewed up we were. Finally there we all were together as one. Suddenly we found ourselves being directed to reach on down and get that canteen of loving H20 from its holder on our pistol belts. “Drink!” Shouted DS W. “Drinking DS! Drinking!” Cried the well fed privates. “I got this.” I said to myself. Gulp after gulp after gulp. I sure is heck wasn’t gonna be the last cat struggling to finish. Unfortunately for me I ate a big banana to top off my meal and it was the first round loaded into the breach to be fired off. Everything went hazy as I felt a rush of sickness overcome my entire upper half of existence. Banana flavored vomit water splashed all over the backside of pvt so and so’s shiny combat boots. My eyes were teared from the whiskey burn of stomach acid through my nasal cavity. I hear, “Oh boy look at that.” Hunched over was DS S snickering as I glanced towards him. Guess I was leading the kickoff to quite a few more pvt’s who had one too many bites cause you could hear the sounds of liquids splashing the hard surface all around us. I struggle with the remaining amount of water as the groans of several others carry on. Laughter from the DS’s confirmed to me that these dude’s were one of a kind twisted individuals. And then one of the DS’s said this: “We’re no strangers to love You know the rules and so do I
A full commitment’s what I’m thinking of You wouldn’t get this from any other guy I just wanna tell you how I’m feeling Gotta make you understand
Never gonna give you up Never gonna let you down Never gonna run around and desert you Never gonna make you cry Never gonna say goodbye Never gonna tell a lie and hurt you.” We had a long time ahead of us to spend with them. Needless to say I lost all desire to eat bananas again. Thanks E 2/81 for all the fond memories.
