Story #2301

I was at work last night (a bar) restocking the import beer and liquor. I saw a guy about 20 years older than me wearing a 101st ball cap sitting opposite the bar near me. I turned to him, greeted him, then asked when he served and what unit Mean while the bar tender is fixing him a drink… He was in one of the infantry units in Ft Campbell back in the 80’s, The guy actually looked a bit like Chuck Norris, Real nice too. I told him I was in Ft Campbell in the lat90’s and got my Air Assault wings while there. He stands up and proceeds to pull out a handful of old challenge coins. He throws down the Air Assault coin… He’s got me, I usually only have my coins during Drill weekends or AT. So I do a left face, I drop, start pushing, just as my bartender was returning to ask the guy if he wanted another She busts out laughing wondering what I am doing, so I had to explain. Civilians just don’t understand. The rest of the night the guy had a huge smile on his face where as he wasn’t smiling before I talked to him… I will not be unprepared tonight. I am going to carry my challenge coin to work from now on
